Binary Shift Left (multiply by factor 2)

When a binary number is shifted 1 place to the left it multiplies by the factor 2. Look at the examples below. The number goes from 2 to 4

In the example below the binary shift has been 1 to the left and the number goes from 10 to 20 (multiplied by 2)

 

A shift of 2 places: the number goes from 10 to 40 (x2 x2)

Binary shift right (divide by factor 2)

In the example below the number goes for 10 to 5 (divided by 2)
